Ride - Leave Them All Behind

I'm shocked that I didn't post the Leave Them All Behind video back in the Your Forgotten Favorite days. I'm guessing that the video fell under the dreaded "embedding disabled by request" (I'm SO happy that doesn't happen much anymore). Anyway, this shoegazing classic by Ride was one of my favorite songs of the 90s. It still revs me up after all of these years.

Rose Falcon - If Love Had A Heart

A few Sunday mornings ago I was knee deep in my usual post-bike ride routine which consists of reading the paper, drinking coffee, and watching country music videos on either GAC or CMT Pure. Most of the time the videos are just background noise as I've seen many of them dozens of times. Every so often though, a song, a voice or both will have me popping my head over the sports page. The moment I heard Rose Falcon's smokey voice my attention was hers for the next few minutes. Shortly after the video ended her fantastic 19th Avenue Volume 2 EP was in my iTunes (I already had her wonderful first 19th Avenue EP). Check it out the goodness that is Rose Falcon.

Yuzima - Anarchy

I did an interview with NYC singer/songwriter Yuzima in January so you can read all about who he is right HERE).

Yuzima just released his latest single and simply put, it's bad ass. Anarchy is a fuzzed-out nuclear bomb blast that should certainly resonate with fans of the classic Wax Trax! sound. Check out the video (which would also fit in nicely with old Wax Trax! videos).

Gwen Sebastian - Suitcase

I started watching The Voice in Season 2 and have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting some more some for some sort of payoff in the form of recorded music (hell, even 7th place contestants on Idol seem to have a record out almost as soon as the show ends). Well, it looks like the wheels have actually been in motion and I'm just really impatient as Season 2's Gwen Sebastian (Team Blake) has a brand-new self-titled album out today (already sitting in my iTunes). Here's the record's first video for the fantastic single Suitcase.

Zac Brown Band - The Wind

I have to admit, the first time I saw the Zac Brown Band (a few years ago) I really wasn't much of a fan. I'll blame a brutally hot NYC night, a ridiculously long beer line and thousands of Dave Matthews Band fans (never a good thing). It took me a few years to get over that experience and give them another shot. But when Uncaged came out last year, it all clicked for me -- especially when I heard the first single (The Wind) and saw the awesome video made by Mike Judge of Beavis and Butt-head and King of the Hill fame. I have, of course, gone back through the rest of their catalog and can now say that I'm a ZBB fan, which is a good thing because I'm seeing them play again this Saturday.

The Civil Wars - The One That Got Away

Now THIS is something to get excited about. There's a brand new album by The Civil Wars coming out in August (so much for that break-up, huh?). I heard The One That Got Away last week and immediately fell in love with it (Joy's voice is as gorgeous as ever). Here's the video that I'll probably watch a hundred times between now and the album's release.

Ra Ra Riot - Dance With Me

Tonight's the night! I FINALLY get to see The Postal Service perform. But I think I'll save them for this week's Friday Flashback (it's not like they have any new music out AND hopefully I'll get some great photos to make it an extra special post). Instead, let's check out a video from show openers Ra Ra Riot. Here's the first single off their most recent album Beta Love. I haven't heard the album yet, but judging by this song (and from what I've read) they appear to be shifting from a more indie rock sound and into more synthpop territory. That normally would scare the bejeezus out of me, but this song's pretty cool so I'll keep an open mind and just have some fun.

The National - Sea of Love

Here's the first video off Trouble Will Find Me, the latest album by Brooklyn-based indie band The National. Not only am I digging it, but I'm also starting to kick myself for not going to see them (again) when they recently came to town.

Jawbreaker - Fireman

It's time for another Friday Flashback. Here's a Jawbreaker classic from their final studio album, 1995's Dear You.

Kurt Vile - Never Run Away

I'm embarrassingly late to the Kurt Vile party. I FINALLY listened to him last night for the first time after hearing about how awesome he was/is for years. I can't speak for his early work, but his latest album, Wakin on a Pretty Daze is pretty freakin' rad slice of fuzzed-out indie rockin' psychedelia. Check out the video for the album's first single and see and hear for yourself.

Adrienne Pierce - My Heavens and Museum

Adrienne Pierce has made Your New Favorite Song's "Top 50 Best Of List" two of the last three years. So how is it possible that I have yet to post one of her videos? My bad. Well let me make up for my foolishness by posting not one, but two videos. First up is the video for the title track off her fantastic new record My Heavens.

And now here's a fun video and an incredibly catchy tune (Museum) from 2010's Oh Deer album.

Jimmy Eat World - I Will Steal You Back

There's a new Jimmy Eat World record out today. Will you be picking up Damage? You know I'll certainly get it. Here's the video for the album's first single. It sure sounds good to me.

Velocity Girl - I Can't Stop Smiling

Well, it appears this Flashback Friday will be special one. It's the 700th post here at Your New Favorite Song! Insane.

Let's take a walk down memory lane. I started this silly little music video blog over three years ago for two reasons: 1. To actually have fun writing again (something that was seriously lacking in my professional world and still is...but that's another story) and 2. To stop annoying my friends on Facebook with countless videos on late nights (which I'm still guilty of...but not nearly as much).

The site was initially called Your Forgotten Favorite (after the Velocity Girl song....incidentally their Audrey's Eyes video was the first video I posted) and the focus was strictly on 90s alternative, indie and punk videos. It was fun going back to my college and bar DJ days. But like all good things, it ran its course after about 350 videos (in those days I refused to repeat bands...now, not so much). After a short break we moved on to the 00s. Not exactly my best idea. It appeared that NO ONE felt like looking back on that decade. As one regular reader noted, "It's hard to get nostalgic about a song that came out four years ago and is still played way too much on the radio." Ouch. Point taken.

Last October, I realized it was time for another change. I wanted to focus on the now. What's current and what I like (a lot more country). Maybe even do some interviews (which were wickedly successful...note to self: do some more). I was good to go, well, except for the name. Your Forgotten Favorite made absolutely no sense anymore. Your New Favorite Song was born.

As always, thanks for indulging me, reading these posts, and spreading the word. As it is Flashback Friday, let's go with the band that started it all. Here's one of my favorite Velocity Girl songs. Enjoy!

Alice in Chains - Stone

When the latest Alice in Chains record came out a couple weeks ago all I kept reading was that it was "really heavy." Considering they were already a pretty heavy band I was bit skeptical. But after checking out the first video off of The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here I have to say, "Yeah, the new Alice in Chains is really heavy." Deep. I know.

Lenka - Heart to the Party

Australian indie pop singer/songwriter Lenka released her third album Shadows today. I actually haven't heard the record yet, but I did pick it up first thing this morning and plan on cranking it up on the stereo tonight. Here's the video for the dreamy first single Heart to the Party.
