Sebadoh - I Will

I can't believe there's been a new Sebadoh album out for two weeks and I haven't heard it yet. Twenty-something Scott is really pissed off at 30-something Scott...that's for certain. Back in the 90s I wouldn't have missed a new Sebadoh album on release day for anything. I'll certainly be picking up Defend Yourself as soon as I can though as I love this first single. Here's the video for I Will featuring Lou Barlow (obviously) and his feline buddies.

Sunday In The Country Part 5 - Gary Allan

All week I've been previewing WPOC's Sunday In The Country concert in Columbia, MD (which you can read here, here, here and here. Today, we conclude with the show's headliner Gary Allan.

Gary Allan's Set You Free is one of the most refreshing country albums released this year. It's modern country music for people who like their country with very little pop flair. The first single Every Storm (Runs Out Of Rain) is one of the finest country songs you'll hear on the radio and I don't think it surprised anyone when it went to No. 1 on the charts. I'll be very interested to see how the crowd responds to him after the party that is Florida Georgia Line. All I know is that I'm in for an awesome day of country music on Sunday.

Sunday In The Country Part 4 - Florida Georgia Line

Three more days until WPOC's annual Sunday In The County. So far I've previewed Maggie Rose and The Henningsens, Randy Houser, and Brantley Gilbert. Today we head on down to the Florida Georgia Line to get our shine on.

While Gary Allan is the headliner for this year's Sunday In The Country, I have a feeling that the sold-out crowd is going to go absolutely bonkers for Florida Georgia Line who are riding high with three straight No. 1 singles from their debut album Here's To The Good Times. I missed Florida Georgia Line when they came to town earlier this year, so I'm excited to be one of the "Party People" on Sunday night.

Sunday In The Country Part 3 - Brantley Gilbert

Four more days until Sunday In The Country!!! Monday I looked at Maggie Rose and The Henningsens. Yesterday I covered Randy Houser. Today it's time for country rocker Brantley Gilbert. With two albums under his belt and two No. 1 hits (Country Must Be Country Wide and You Don't Know Her Like I Do), Brantley Gilbert is one of country music's rising stars. I suspect by the time his next album comes out the raspy voiced singer/songwriter from Georgia will complete his country radio takeover. I hear he puts on a heck of a show and I look forward to finding out for myself on Sunday.

Sunday in the Country Part 2 - Randy Houser

Sunday in the Country is this Sunday and I'm pretty freakin' psyched. Yesterday I wrote about The Henningsens and Maggie Rose which you can read right here. Today we take a brief look at Randy Houser.

Randy's had a pretty darn good year. His latest record How Country Feels has generated two No. 1 hits (so far) -- the title track and Running Out of Moonlight. How Country Feels is one of my favorite popular country albums of the year and I'm really looking forward to hearing those great songs come alive. Here's the video for his most recent No. 1.

Sunday in the Country Part 1 - The Henningsens and Maggie Rose

Sunday in the Country is just a handful of days away. FINALLY. The annual concert hosted by Baltimore's WPOC is a fun way to spend an autumn day here in Maryland. This year's show kicks off with two hot newcomers: The Henningsens and Maryland's own Maggie Rose. Then it's time for four artists who have dominated the charts this year: Randy Houser, Brantley Gilbert, Florida Georgia Line and headliner Gary Allan. Simply put, 2013's Sunday in the Country will be 1,000 times better than watching my beloved Bills get destroyed by the Ravens.

Today, let's take a look at The Henningsens and Maggie Rose.

The Henningsens are a family act out of Illinois whose fantastic debut single American Beautiful made quite a splash on the country charts. I really enjoyed their self-titled EP and look forward to seeing them live. Check out the video for American Beautiful.

I'm a big fan of the soulful and sassy Maggie Rose. Her first single I'm Not Your Mama was one of my favorite songs last year and the video for her latest single Better has been getting a ton of airplay on CMT. Personally, I'm just psyched to finally get a chance to see her perform after a couple of missed opportunities in the last year. Here's the video for heartbreaking beautiful Better.

Geraldine Fibbers - Dragon Lady

I'm dumbfounded that I never posted this Geraldine Fibbers video back in the Your Forgotten Favorite days (YFF was the precursor to Your New Favorite Song and was all 90s alt videos). Dragon Lady still stands as one of my favorite songs ever. It still gives me chills even 18 years after hearing it for the first time. I've probably made 100s of mix tapes/cds for people over the years and I'd venture to say that a good portion of them made after 1995 concluded with this apocalyptic love song from the Geraldine Fibbers mind-blowing Lost Somewhere Between the Earth and My Home record.

Della Mae - Empire

I saw Della Mae's Empire video on CMT a couple months ago and immediately fell head over heels for this Boston-based bluegrass band. I picked up their Rounder Records debut This World Oft Can Be that day. If you like killer picking and tremendous harmonies, you're going to dig this record. I sure did.
