The Unseen - You Can Never Go Home
It's going to be a long week. Good thing it's Punk Rock Monday, because I definitely need to find something to get me going. Let's see if this video by The Unseen, off of their State of Discontent record, can do the trick. Enjoy!

Spiritualized - Stop Your Crying
Yes, today is a perfect day to chill out and listen to Spiritualized. In fact, I just bought their new record so I'll have even more to space out to. Here's a very cool video from 2001's Let It Come Down. Enjoy!

AFI - Girl's Not Grey
Haven't done a Punk Monday in a while (looks like Hardcore Monday and Metal Monday have been dominating the Mondays this year...my bad). Anyway, here's one of my favorite AFI songs from their Sing The Sorrow record. Enjoy!

Ryan Bingham - Bread and Water
I saw Ryan Bingham play a killer show a couple years ago in my town. The room was a rockin' all night and it was a pleasure to talk to him after the show (hence the photo above of me, Ryan, and My Mrs.). If you ever get a chance to see him play live, DO IT!!! Here's an awesome track off his debut record Mescalito...dig that slide guitar. Enjoy!

The Strokes - Last Nite
I still bounce around like a maniac when I hear this song by the The Strokes. Won't you all join me in some "exercise"? Enjoy!

Broken Social Scene - Cause=Time
While I was already a fan of Broken Social Scene, it wasn't until I saw them open up for Belle and Sebastian that I truly realized how great they were. Now that I think about it, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists were on that bill as well...talk about a killer show all the way around. Anyway, here's a video from their You Forgot It in People record. Enjoy!

From Autumn To Ashes - Lilacs & Lolita
I first read about Long Island's From Autumn To Ashes in one of my favorite zines (Under The Volcano). Their first record, Too Bad You're Beautiful, was a hardcore kick in the face, but what really struck me was the nine-minute long closing track, Short Stories With Tragic Endings. The song mixed the band's heavy sounds/screaming with the sweet vocals of Melanie Willis of One True Thing. It's a remarkable track. Check it out on Spotify if you get a chance (I couldn't find a good video of it on YouTube...there's a live video with the drummer singing Melanie's part...yeah, not quite the same...while you're at it check out Autumn's Monologue, the other song she sings with the band).
Here's a track off their second record The Fiction We Live. Enjoy!

Shooter Jennings - Gone to Carolina
I've been listening to a lot of Shooter Jennings lately. And for good reason. His new record (Family Man) will certainly be in my top 10 of 2012. But let's go back six years and check out a smokin' track off of Shooter's Electric Rodeo record. Enjoy!

Modest Mouse - Float On
Sometimes I inexplicably forget how great a song truly is. I heard this Modest Mouse classic on the radio this morning and haven't stopped singing it since. Something tells me that I'm about to go on yet another Modest Mouse binge this week...and I'm very cool with that. Enjoy!

Suzanne Vega - Solitude Standing
It doesn't seem possible but Suzanne Vega's Solitude Standing turned 25 this week. So to celebrate 25 years of one of my favorite records I'm going to break from the 2000 theme and post a live video from this classic.
Over the last 11 years my wife and I have had the good fortune of seeing her perform a number of times as well as meet with her after the show (see: above photo). It's always a fantastic performance whether she's by herself, accompanied by her trusty bassist Mike Visceglia, or a full-on band. So happy 25 years of Solitude Standing. I hope to toast the occasion when I see her perform again next month at the Ram's Head On Stage. Enjoy!
