Jennifer Nettles - That Girl

I've been going all sorts of bonkers waiting for this Sunday's Girls with Guitars show in Baltimore. The show will feature Cassadee Pope (Season 3 Champion of The Voice), personal fave and my 2012 artist of the year Kellie Pickler, the always amazing Sheryl Crow and Jennifer Nettles who just happens to play in one of my favorite country duos (Sugarland). Here's the first single from Jennifer's solo debut.

AFI - I Hope You Suffer

AFI's latest album Burials dropped today. Judging by the two tracks I've heard, it appears that the band has once again reinvented themselves. I lost count but I'm pretty sure we're at AFI version 5.0 at this point. Much like their previous sonic evolutions it took me about two listens to get used to and into the new direction.

Pixies - Dig for Fire & Allison

It's time for another Friday Flashback. Here's the Pixies and their video for Dig for Fire from 1990's Bossanova album. I always wondered why/how Allison got added to the Dig video. Turns out it was a tribute to jazz musician Mose Allison. Look at me droppin' some Wikipedia knowledge on y'all.

Diane Birch - All The Love You Got

Diane Birch's soulful debut Bible Belt was one of my favorite albums of 2009. After just one listen, it's safe to say that her latest record Speak A Little Louder will be on my 2013 "Best Of" list as it's one of the finest records I've heard all year. Here's the video for her fantastic first single All The Love You Got.

Hey look! It's me and Diane after her June 6, 2010 show at the Ram's Head.

Sonic Youth - Dirty Boots

Yikes. Almost 800 videos posted on this crazy little blog and I have yet to do one on Sonic Youth?!?!? What the hell is wrong with me? Don't answer that. There will never be a band as cool as Sonic Youth. Everything they did was just perfect for that time period. Hell, even when they "sold out" and went to a major label, they did it the right way and on their terms. Of their 15 studio albums, 1990's Goo is still my favorite (although if you ask me in a few days I might say Daydream Nation...or Dirty). Since I said Goo (today), let's check out the mosh-pit love story video for Dirty Boots.

Ruut - Glimpse

I saw Finnish-born (now living in Baltimore) singer/songwriter Ruut open for Kat Edmonson last month and was completely blown away by her captivating voice and enthralling songs. I picked up her latest CD Glimpse after the show and I have to say that it's simply one of the most gorgeous sounding records of the year. Check out the video for the fantastic title track and hear for yourself.

Joe Nichols - Sunny and 75

Joe Nichols' eighth album Crickets hits stores tomorrow and I look forward to checking out what the Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off singer has to offer up on this go around. I really like the breezy summer vibe of the first single Sunny and 75 and I'm hopeful the rest of Crickets will deliver. I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Amanda Shires - Devastate

My 2013 album wishlist is growing insanely out of control. No matter how many records I pick up each week, it seems like there are about a dozen more that I still want at the end of the month. Amanda Shires' latest Down Fell The Doves is on that list. After watching the video for Devastate, I have a feeling Down Fell The Doves will be off my wishlist and on my iPod by the end of the week.

Delta Rae - If I Loved You

I've been seeing Delta Rae's video for If I Loved You a lot lately on CMT Pure which is a good thing because this Durham, NC Americana band and their fantastic harmonies have my head all sorts of spinnin'. Their debut album Carry The Fire has been out for over a year now. I think it's about time for me to pick it up.
