Kelly Willis - Teddy Boys

It's hard to believe that it's been almost five years since Kelly Willis released the fantastic Translated From Love record. The good news is that her fans won't have to wait too much longer for new music as she and her husband Bruce Robison are set to release a record this fall. Until then, check out this video from Translated. Enjoy!

Carina Round - Downslow

I first "discovered" Carina Round around the time her Slow Motion Addict record came out. I was killing time at my old job by cd shopping (of course) at the Borders across the street from my office. Slow Motion Addict was one of the featured cds that week. The cover looked interesting so I "took a chance" on it, and I'm glad I did, as it became an instant favorite. She just released a new record called Tigermending which I still need to get. The good thing is I won't have to "take a chance" on this one, I know I'll like it. Anyway, here's the stunningly simple video for Downslow. Enjoy!

Rival Schools - Used for Glue

The Rival Schools debut album - 2001's United by Fate - was one of my favorite records of the past decade. Of course Rival Schools main man Walter Schreifels was also responsible for one of my favorite records of the 90s - Quicksand's debut, Slip. I was psyched when I heard Rival Schools were reuniting in 2008 (after breaking up in 2003) to play some shows. I was super psyched when they released a new record last year called Pedals (a damn fine record). Let's hope their next record doesn't take another 10 years.

M83 - We Own The Sky

IT'S FRIDAY FUNDAY!!!

Here's some shoegazing dance goodness from M83 to kick off your weekend. Enjoy!

The Wreckers - Leave The Pieces

It's Country Thursday!

The Wreckers were a short-lived, but successful country duo consisting of Jessica Harp and Michelle Branch. Sadly, they only made this one record (and a subsequent live CD/DVD) before refocusing on their solo careers (nothing wrong with that, I was a fan of Branch before and became a fan of Harp after I heard The Wreckers). Hopefully though, they'll find some time to get together again and make some more great music together. Here's their fine first single. Enjoy!

Camera Obscura - Lloyd, I'm Ready To Be Heartbroken

From the moment I first listened to Glasgow, Scotland's Camera Obscura I was hooked. Of course it didn't hurt that the first song was today's video - a response to Lloyd Cole and the Commotions' legendary song "Are You Gonna Be Heartbroken?". Anyway, give it a listen...I'll bet you'll be dancing around like the couple in the video in no time. Enjoy!

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - Relative Ways

I heard ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead for the first time when their amazing record Source Tags & Codes came out. It was hard not to buy into the considerable and deserved hype the band was generating in the music media (mostly about their wild live performances), I had to check it out. To say Source Tags & Codes rocked my world is a HUGE understatement. Here's one of my favorite tracks by the band (coincidentally there's a video for it...how lucky for me). Enjoy!

Fake Problems - Diamond Rings

I'm feeling a little funky on this Punk Rock Monday.

I saw Fake Problems a couple years ago at Warped. Definitely one of the better performances of the day. Here's a groovy video from their second record - It's Great To Be Alive. Enjoy!

My Chemical Romance - I'm Not Okay (I Promise)

OK, so this is not the "typical" FRIDAY FUNDAY song, but this My Chemical Romance video is certainly fun to watch. Enjoy!

Lady Antebellum - Run To You and Love Don't Live Here

We're going mainstream this Country Thursday, and there's a perfectly good reason why. I'm seeing Lady Antebellum for the first time this Sunday. We got our usual front row seats in the right loge of the amphitheater so hopefully I'll get some good photos. Opening up are husband and wife duo Thompson Square and Hootie...errr Darius Rucker. Should be a good time.

So let's celebrate with two of Lady A's finer tracks from their debut album. Enjoy!

Rasputina - A Quitter

I first saw Rasputina in 1996 when they were opening for Bob Mould. They blew my feeble mind away and I've been a fan ever since.

As much as I'd love to post the videos for my two favorite Rasputina songs - the amazing "The Olde HeadBoard" and "Transylvanian Concubine," I can't, because they were both from the 90s and we stopped doing the 90s months ago (seriously, check out those videos if you've never seen them...very cool tunes). Anyway, here's a video from 2002's Cabin Fever record. Enjoy!

Rogue Wave - Lake Michigan

Here's a cool Rogue Wave song and video from 2007's Asleep at Heaven's Gate record. Enjoy!

Tim Armstrong - Into Action

If you're not skankin' to this Tim Armstrong video you have no soul. Here's the lead single from his first solo record - A Poet's Life. Enjoy!

Stereolab - Neon Beanbag

FRIDAY...FUNDAY! FRIDAY...FUNDAY! FRIDAY...FUNDAY!

Let's kick-off the weekend with some moogy goodness. Here's a Stereolab video from their Chemical Chords record. Enjoy!

Erin McKeown - To The Stars

Seeing Erin McKeown again tonight (above photo is my wife and I with Erin from few years ago). Here's a clip of her performing one of my favorite songs by her on Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

Mastodon - Blood and Thunder

So there's a pretty decent chance that I'm seeing Mastodon play tonight. I can't even remember the last time I went to a metal show. I'm guessing it will be just a bit more louder than the Suzanne Vega show I saw last week or the Erin McKeown show I'm seeing tomorrow. Anyway, here's a video from Mastodon's Leviathan album. Enjoy!

St. Vincent - Actor Out Of Work

Here's an interesting video and one of my favorite songs by St. Vincent. Enjoy!

The Offspring - Want You Bad

Here's a forgotten favorite (really, I totally forgot about this great tune) by The Offspring. This one's from their Conspiracy of One record. Enjoy!

Peter, Bjorn & John - Young Folks

It's Friday Funday!!! So whistle along to this Peter, Bjorn & John tune that features Victoria Bergsman of The Concretes. Enjoy!

Nickel Creek - When In Rome

Here's a mighty fine Nickel Creek tune from their Why Should the Fire Die? record. Enjoy!

The National - Mistaken For Strangers

I got to see The National perform in the summer of 2008 with a couple of little known acts: Modest Mouse and R.E.M. Here's a video from their Boxer record (which they were touring for that summer). Enjoy!

Jay Reatard - It Ain't Gonna Save Me

Here's an awesome tune and fun video from the late great Jay Reatard. Enjoy!
