Here’s my Top 10 records released in 2011 that I truly enjoyed (plus another 50 because they deserve some love too). This year I had over 175 albums to choose from (otherwise known as records that I purchased). I heard plenty more via Spotify and other such services, but if I didn’t go out and get them, they obviously weren’t worthy of my consideration. Live and best of records were not considered.
Here’s the soundtrack to my year (with some video goodness!).
The Top 10
1. (TIE) Miranda Lambert/Pistol Annies – Four the Record & Hell on Heels – OK, I couldn’t decide which one of Miranda’s records released this year that I liked more, so I’m just going to call it a tie. Hell on Heels is a gritty effort from three great country singer/songwriters (Lambert is joined by friends Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley…who both had a number of writing credits on Four the Record as well). Four the Record is classic Miranda. Stylistically, it's her most diverse record. I saw her this summer as she was finishing her Revolution Tour (this also included a short Pistol Annies set) and I’m seeing her again for my birthday later in January.
2. Civil Wars – Barton Hollow – Hard to believe that Taylor Swift’s Twitter feed is responsible for me first hearing about this band (well before Barton Hollow came out). This record is simply stunning. Joy and John Paul’s voices sound so good together. I got to see them twice this year and the live show is unbelievably good.
3. Sunny Sweeney – Concrete - I seriously got Sweenered this year. Went head over heels for Concrete’s lead single, From A Table Away (a love song gone wrong -- from the perspective of the other woman who finds out that her man is going back to his wife).
4. Old 97’s – The Grand Theatre Volume 2 - The Olds have long been a favorite of mine. They are my “go-to” band whenever I need to hear something great.
5. Adele – 21 - This little-known Brit soul singer…LOL. Adele has one of the best voices I’ve ever heard. I’d recommend songs by her, but who are we kidding, y’all know them already.
6. Alison Krauss and Union Station – Paper Airplanes - About three years ago I ordered the double live Alison Krauss and Union Station disc. I’ve pretty much been obsessed with her music since then. Alison possesses one of the most comforting voices I’ve ever heard.
7. Ashton Shepherd – Where Country Grows - A little bit sassy, a little bit homespun, and one of the finest country albums made this year.
8. Chris Connelly – Artificial Madness - I’ve been a fan of Chris since 91. He’s performed on and released some of my favorite industrial records over the years. Whether it be with Ministry, Revolting Cocks, Pigface and his extensive solo catalog, I’ve remained a fan. On Artificial Madness he ditched the acoustic sound of his last few records (which I thought were quite good) and went back to his industrial roots.
9. The Decemberists – The King is Dead – I never get tired of this band. After a couple well-done concept albums, this year they simply put out a record of great songs. Was happy to see them again this summer (which seems to be an every other year event).
10. Christina Perri – Lovestrong - The first time I heard Jar of Hearts I was parking my truck. I sat in my driveway and impatiently waited to hear who sang the song (surprisingly the DJ obliged…doesn’t really happen much anymore does it?). The song still gives me chills and I found the rest of the album to be a great listen.
50 other records that I spent a lot of time enjoying (in no particular order...the numbers are simply proof that I can still count to 60)…
11. Crooked Fingers – Breaks in the Armor
12. Death Cab for Cutie – Codes and Keys
13. Deer Tick – Divine Providence
14. Those Darlins –Screws Get Loose
15. Sarah Jarosz – Follow Me Down
16. Dropkick Murphys – Going Out In Style
17. Wild Flag – Wild Flag
18. Jason Isbell –Here We Rest
19. Jessica Lea Mayfield – Tell Me
20. Lady Antebellum – Own the Night
21. Lori McKenna – Lorraine
22. Lydia Loveless – Indestructible Machine
23. Sierra Hull – Daybreak
24. Mighty Mighty Bosstones – The Magic of Youth
25. Rise Against –Endgame
26. Ryan Adams – Ashes and Fire
27. Sara Evans – Stronger
28. Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks – Mirror Traffic
29. Tom Waits – Bad As Me
30. CJaye Lerose – Date With The Tub
31. Ida Maria - Katla
32. Vanessa Carlton – Rabbits on the Run
33. If Not For Dreaming – Awake and Asleep
34. Social Distortion – Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes

Jeff Buckley - Last Goodbye
Well, we all knew this day would come. With this Jeff Buckley video, the 90s Alt Video Goodness comes to an end. Thanks to everyone for reading, reliving and supporting me for almost two years and 401 artists. Hope y'all stick with me in the New Year as we move on to the 00s (BEWARE: I already have ideas for Jumping The Shark Week 00-style). I'll post my top 30 artists of 2011 here later this week. Until then, thanks and Enjoy!
Earth Crisis - Firestorm
Before we get into today's video, I just wanted to let you all know that there will be no post tomorrow, but we'll return on Friday to say one Last Goodbye to the 90s...
The first time I heard Firestorm by Earth Crisis my head pretty much exploded. I still think it's the heaviest song I've ever listened to. Here's a somewhat recent performance of this 1993 classic.

Sleater-Kinney - One More Hour & Call The Doctor
As Your Forgotten Favorite prepares to mercifully put an end to the 90s, we'll let the live goodness continue with one of my favorite bands -- Sleater-Kinney. Here's two of their early classics. Enjoy!

Tiger Trap - Words and Smiles
OK, y'all knew this was coming, but I'm going to be wrapping up the 90s alt video goodness on Dec. 21st (well, maybe one more post on New Year's Eve with my Top 30 of 2011). Never fear, while we're saying goodbye to the 90s we will be welcoming a LONG forgotten decade...the 00s (LOL). While alt/indie will be the focus, there will also be punk, hardcore, metal and alt-country (and maybe some more mainstream stuff as well). It's all still forming in my head. Also need a new name (I'm a lazy guy so don't be surprised if I do something lame like Your Forgotten Favorite 2.0). Should be up and running in early January. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for taking this ride with me and commenting and requesting stuff to me on Twitter and Facebook. Hope you'll enjoy the first decade of the 21st Century.
So, I'm kind of tapped with actual music videos that I like, so we're going to hit up some bands that I can only find "unofficial" live clips. Let's start with Tiger Trap. Enjoy!

Bongwater - Psychedelic Sewing Room
For the longest time I had only heard the name Bongwater, but didn't really know what they were all about. I finally checked them out a few years ago, and yeah, they're kind of out there, but in a good way. Enjoy!

Pulley - Cashed In
I had hoped to start off the week with a kickass punk song. And while this Pulley song is a favorite, the video/sound quality of this particular video is kind of bad (just turn the volume down a bit and it's passable). Enjoy!

Monsterland - Insulation
I saw the Pernice Brothers in a small little venue in Northern Virginia when they were touring for their wonderful debut album Overcome By Happiness. To be honest, I knew nothing about the band except that Thom Monahan of Monsterland was their bass player. I had to go. Before the set started, I saw Thom by the bar and said to him, "Hi Thom, I know you're getting ready to play soon, but I just wanted to let you know that Destroy What You Love is one of my favorite albums ever." He kind of looked at me as if I was joking, but quickly could tell that I was serious (which I was). He smiled and said, "Thanks. That's certainly something I don't hear too often. Let's talk after the show." And of course we did (really nice guy, as was Joe Pernice). I have wanted to post a video by Monsterland since I started this blog (almost two years ago) but couldn't find one until yesterday (turns out someone posted it a few months ago). Enjoy!

Steel Pole Bath Tub - Twist
I suppose we can start out the week with some noise rock. Here's a Steel Pole Bath Tub video from their Scars From Falling Down album. Enjoy!

Lisa Loeb - Stay & I Do
I really wish I could find the clip of Jimmy The Cabdriver (Donal Logue) singing Stay (one of my favorite MTV commercials ever). Alas, I couldn't, so let's instead relive the insane cuteness that is Lisa Loeb. Enjoy!
Tuesday, November 29, 2011
Jesus Jones - Zeroes and Ones
I saw Jesus Jones pretty much at the height of their popularity (Ned's Atomic Dustbin opened...great show actually). If you're reading this blog, you should know all of their big hits from Doubt (Right Here, Right now, International Bright Young Thing and Real, Real, Real), so instead, let's check out a forgotten gem off of their possibly-ahead-of-its-time-but-now-sounds-kinda-dated Perverse album. Enjoy!

Morcheeba - Trigger Hippie
I'm feeling a little trip-hoppy on this gloomy day. Here's a Morcheeba video from their debut record -- Who Can You Trust. Enjoy!
Tuesday, November 22, 2011
White Town - Your Woman
I don't think I've heard any other White Town songs accept for this one. I'm cool with that though as this is a pretty rad song.
Monday, November 21, 2011
The Dead Milkmen - Methodist Coloring Book
I'm always in the mood for The Dead Milkmen. Here's a classic off of their Metaphysical Graffiti album. Enjoy!
Friday, November 18, 2011
Thursday, November 17, 2011
The Fluid - Black Glove
I guess the rain has got me in a grunge mood again today, so here's a classic track by The Fluid. Enjoy!
Wednesday, November 16, 2011
Pearl Jam - Even Flow
Here's a little known band from Seattle called Pearl Jam. I'm sure a few of you may have heard of them before. Enjoy!
Tuesday, November 15, 2011
Monday, November 14, 2011
Jimmy Eat World - Lucky Denver Mint
I've been lucky enough to see Jimmy Eat World a couple times over the last few years. Always a great time. Here's a classic track off of their Clarity album. Enjoy!
Friday, November 11, 2011
Thursday, November 10, 2011
Ramones - Poison Heart
Can't say that I was a big fan of the Ramones 90s output (really, who was?), but they will always be one of my favorite bands. Enjoy!
Wednesday, November 9, 2011
Tom Waits - I Don't Wanna Grow Up
I still remember seeing today's video for the first time on 120 Minutes and thinking, "WTF is this?" I was young and stupid. Now I'm old, still stupid, but a Tom Waits fan. Enjoy!
Tuesday, November 8, 2011
Pigface - Tonight's The Night (Little Sisters) Remix
New Chris Connelly disc is out today! Seeing that I've already posted one of his solo videos and a Revolting Cocks video, I guess we'll have to settle (he says with a grin) for a Pigface classic (with Chris singing, of course) from their debut -- Gub. Enjoy!
Monday, November 7, 2011
My Bloody Valentine - Only Shallow and Soon
I can't believe I missed the 20th anniversary of My Bloody Valentine's amazing Loveless record last Friday. Thought I'd post two videos by them to make up for it. Enjoy!
Friday, November 4, 2011
The Beloved - Hello
It's Friday Funday!!! So get down and shake it baby!!! Here's The Beloved to kick off your weekend. Enjoy!
Thursday, November 3, 2011
Mercury Rev - Chasing a Bee
How did I not know that Mercury Rev was from Buffalo, NY? As a former western New Yorker I feel shame. Anyway, here's some dreampop/psychedelic goodness off of their debut Yerself is Steam record. Enjoy!
Wednesday, November 2, 2011
10,000 Maniacs - These Are Days
Like R.E.M., the 10,000 Maniacs were one of the first "college rock" bands I got into in the late 80s. I kind of blew off Our Time in Eden (their last album with Natalie Merchant) when it came out, but have since given it a shot and thought it was pretty good. Here's the big hit. Enjoy!
Tuesday, November 1, 2011
Cherry Poppin' Daddies - Zoot Suit Riot
Remember the 90s swing revival? Yeah, that was a good 15 minutes, huh? Produced some fun songs though, like today's ditty by the Cherry Poppin' Daddies. Enjoy!
Monday, October 31, 2011
Shai Hulud - My Heart Bleeds the Darkest Blood
It's been way too long since I posted some good old 90s hardcore. Here's Shai Hulud to brighten up your Halloween. Enjoy!

Thursday, October 27, 2011
Supergrass - Alright
I guess I'm feeling Brit-poppy today. Must be the rain. Anyway, here's a track off the Supergrass debut I Should Coco. Enjoy!
Wednesday, October 26, 2011
Jane's Addiction - Been Caught Stealing
I was trying to figure out why I haven't posted a video by one of my favorite bands ever. It didn't take me long to figure it out as the dreaded "embedding disabled by request" kept appearing on each video I clicked on. Stupid record labels...gee, sorry I was trying to promote your label's music FOR FREE. Morons. No wonder why the record industry is collapsing.
ANYWAY...(rant over)
I got around the whole problem by finding this Jane's Addiction classic with Spanish subtitles so y'all can learn a new language while rockin' out. Yeah, we're educational here at Your Forgotten Favorite. Enjoy!

While I've never been the biggest Tool fan, I have to say today's song is a favorite of mine (and pretty bad ass as well). Enjoy!

Thursday, October 20, 2011
Mogwai - Stanley Kubrick
Woke up this morning to find out that I won a signed Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks cd from Matador Records. Good enough reason for me to feature a couple more of their bands today and tomorrow (Friday Funday baby!!!) Here's Scotland's Mogwai. Enjoy!
Wednesday, October 19, 2011
The Flys - Got You (Where I Want You)
I haven't thought about this song by The Flys in forever. Heard it on the radio recently and was immediately brought back to my DC office days where I listened to the old WHFS from 9 to 5. Enjoy!
Tuesday, October 18, 2011
Pulp - Common People
After doing this silly 90s alt blog for over a year and a half, I find it hard to believe that I have yet to post a video by one of my favorite bands - Pulp. Well, time to change that. Enjoy!
Monday, October 17, 2011
The Gits - Seaweed
Haven't posted a lot of 90s punk videos lately. My bad. Here was one of Seattle's finest: The Gits. This track is off of their posthumously released Enter: The Conquering Chicken cd. Enjoy!
Friday, October 14, 2011
Lords of Acid - Take Control
It's Friday. It's a Fun Day. IT'S FRIDAY FUNDAY!!!! Bust out the glow sticks and get groovin' to the Lords of Acid. Enjoy!
Thursday, October 13, 2011
Ivy - I've Got A Feeling
I always love the indie pop, so I've Got A Feeling I'm going to be listening to a lot more Ivy after revisiting today's video. Enjoy!
Wednesday, October 12, 2011
Jewel - Who Will Save your Soul
The only time I saw Jewel live was on her first big tour sandwiched between The Afghan Whigs and Neil Young. Talk about a great concert. Hard to believe that was 16 years ago. Not hard to believe that I'm still a big fan of hers. Here's the song that started it all. Enjoy!
Tuesday, October 11, 2011
The Sugarcubes - Hit
In honor of the release of a new Bjork cd today, I figured, why not play her old band The Sugarcubes? Enjoy!
Monday, October 10, 2011
Marilyn Manson - The Beautiful People
I actually met Marilyn Manson (the dude) when they (the band) were touring for their first album with Nine Inch Nails. He was just standing in the lobby of the concert hall. No one was talking to him so I walked up and said "hi." Seemed like a nice enough dude. Here's one of my favorite Manson tracks (that doesn't have a bunch of swears in it...LOL). Enjoy!
Friday, October 7, 2011
The Murmurs - You Suck
I hadn't thought about The Murmurs in a LONG time, but a couple weeks ago this little ditty popped into my head (I'm guessing something stupid ticked me off that day). Enjoy!
Thursday, October 6, 2011
The Ocean Blue - Between Something and Nothing
I was so happy to finally find an embeddable Ocean Blue video. Even better, it's my favorite song by this great Hershey, PA band. Enjoy!
Wednesday, October 5, 2011
Revenge - Pineapple Face
Let's check out another one of those New Order off-shoot bands. Here's Peter Hook's band Revenge. Enjoy!
Tuesday, October 4, 2011
The Seers - Psych-Out
I'm going to be honest, I really don't know much about The Seers and their brand of alt-psychedelia (wikipedia was no help either), but I do remember this classic video from 120 Minutes. Enjoy!

Uncle Tupelo - Whiskey Bottle (live)
Well, it's the last day of Post-a-Live-Video-to-Compensate-for-Stupid-Major-Label-Record-Companies-Who-Force-YouTube-to-Disable-Embedding-of-Certain-Music-Videos Week...and we're ending it with one of my favorite bands: Uncle Tupelo. Enjoy!

The Rentals - Friends of P (Live)
Post-a-Live-Video-to-Compensate-for-Stupid-Major-Label-Record-Companies-Who-Force-YouTube-to-Disable-Embedding-of-Certain-Music-Videos Week rages on...
My first trip to NYC was in the fall of 1995 for the CMJ Music Conference. My friends and I somehow befriended the Maverick Records rep and ended up helping her distribute a couple cases of cassette singles for the label's new band: The Rentals. Here's a live performance of that single on French TV...and YES, that is a young Maya Rudolph singing and playing keys. Enjoy!

Moonpools & Caterpillars - Soon (live)
Continuing with our Post-a-Live-Video-to-Compensate-for-Stupid-Major-Label-Record-Companies-Who-Force-YouTube-to-Disable-Embedding-of-Certain-Music-Videos Week...Or as I like to call it PALVTCFSMLRCWFYTDEOCMV Week. Catchy ain't it?
I've been wanting to post the "Hear" video by Moonpools and Caterpillars for a while now. But, as this week's theme dictates, the video has the "embedding disabled by request." So I went to find a live clip of the song. No dice. Couldn't find one (life is hard). Anyway, here's a live version of another song off of their Lucky Dumpling cd. And if you get a chance, check out the video for "Hear" on YouTube. Enjoy!

Wilco - Outtasite (Outta Mind) (LIVE)
OK, since I've been doing this silly blog I tried to only present the "official" videos for the bands covered. Well, one of those big major labels (name withheld) doesn't allow their videos to be embedded. Sometimes I get lucky and find a version that works (even if the quality is compromised). Most times, I end up skipping the band. The problem is that there are a ton of great bands that we're missing out on. So maybe this week I'll feature them.
With that said, Wilco has a new album out today. I'm going to admit, their last few albums have left me mostly unsatisfied. I guess I just prefer the country/roots sounds found on their first three records. Of course I have all their records (including the new one)...loyalty has its price I suppose. I'm sure I'll like it enough, but not nearly as much as AM, Being There and Summerteeth. Here's a live classic off Being There. Enjoy!

Supreme Love Gods - Alive
I actually saw the Supreme Love Gods twice in 1992. They opened for both 808 State and Ned's Atomic Dustbin (talk about two completely different bands). Anyway, they did that trippy alt thing well enough. Here's a track off of their debut. Enjoy!
Wednesday, September 21, 2011
Alanis Morissette - You Learn & Head Over Feet
Couldn't figure out which Alanis Morissette video to post off her classic Jagged Little Pill, so I went with two (nothing wrong with that considering she once played God). Enjoy!
Tuesday, September 20, 2011
The Jayhawks - Waiting for the Sun
Well, well, well, The Jayhawks have released their first record in eight years today. You know I bought it! Here's a Forgotten Favorite off of their Hollywood Town Hall cd. Enjoy!
Monday, September 19, 2011
Sister Machine Gun - Wired
Yup, another week is upon us here at Your Forgotten Favorite. Let's get it started with some Wax Trax! industrial goodness. Here's Sister Machine Gun. Enjoy!
Friday, September 16, 2011
Gin Blossoms - Found Out About You
Tomorrow is the HFStival. Haven't been to one of these in about 12 years (maybe longer). The line-up looks pretty good. Avett Brothers, Clutch, Minus the Bear, Diane Birch and Flogging Molly, among others. As usual, there are a couple nostalgia acts. One being local "heroes" Jimmy's Chicken Shack (who we've previously covered), and the other is the Gin Blossoms. So, to celebrate, here's one of their songs not named "Hey Jealousy." Enjoy!
Thursday, September 15, 2011
The Cure - Wrong Number
Wow. It's not easy finding an embeddable Cure video from the 90s. I finally found this truly forgotten favorite off of their Galore singles album. Enjoy!
Wednesday, September 14, 2011
Stone Temple Pilots - Interstate Love Song
When I first heard Stone Temple Pilots I was far from impressed. I kind of thought they were a bad Pearl Jam rip-off. It didn't take me long to completely change my mind about them though, and over the years I've seen them live quite a few times. Hell, I actually saw them less than two weeks ago (see photos below the video). Today's song always steals the show for me. Enjoy!
Tuesday, September 13, 2011
Cowboy Junkies - A Horse in the Country
So we go from the thundering Rammstein, to the soulful and rootsy Cowboy Junkies. That's how I roll. Anyway, here's a track off their Black Eyed Man cd. Enjoy!
Monday, September 12, 2011
Rammstein - Du Hast
Well if this doesn't get you going on a Monday, nothing will. Here's German industrial metal heroes Rammstein. Enjoy!
Friday, September 9, 2011
That Dog - He's Kissing Christian
Happy Friday everybody. I haven't heard this one in a while, so join me in getting down with That Dog. Enjoy!

Wednesday, September 7, 2011
Imperial Teen - Yoo Hoo
Well, well, well...another return after some time off (at least this time I was having fun, as opposed to the previous week's power outage). Anyway, let's get things going with some indie pop goodness. Here's Imperial Teen (featuring Roddy Bottum of Faith No More). Enjoy!
Thursday, September 1, 2011
Green Apple Quick Step - Kid
Ahh, it's good to be back and among those with electricity. Anyway, here's a forgotten track by Seattle rockers Green Apple Quick Step. Enjoy!
Friday, August 26, 2011
MC 900 Ft. Jesus - If I Only Had A Brain
The weekend is here. Stay safe East Coasters (and I suppose everyone else too). Here's some Friday Funtastic music by MC 900 Ft. Jesus. Enjoy!
Thursday, August 25, 2011
Son Volt - Drown
I've been a big fan of Jay Farrar since the Uncle Tupelo days. Son Volt, Jay's next band, became an instant favorite (and they still are to this day). Here's a video off of their tremendous debut, Trace. Enjoy!
Wednesday, August 24, 2011
Filter - Hey Man, Nice Shot & Take a Picture
How is it that I'm 325 videos into this goofy 90s blog and I haven't posted a Filter video yet? Shame on me as they are one of my favorite bands of the 90s. Here are their two big hits. Enjoy!
Tuesday, August 23, 2011
Monday, August 22, 2011
Frenzal Rhomb - Punch in the Face + Russel Crowe's Band
Kicking off another week of Your Forgotten Favorite with some punk rock goodness from Australia. Here's Frenzal Rhomb. Enjoy!
Awww hell, why not one more. This one's from 2003.

Machines of Loving Grace - Butterfly Wings
I couldn't think of a typical Friday Funday video today. So, we'll put the party on hold for a week and instead enjoy this industrial classic by Machines of Loving Grace. Enjoy!
Thursday, August 18, 2011
Eve 6 - Inside Out
Yup. Here's Eve 6 and the "Tender Heart in a Blender" song (like you knew it was really called "Inside Out"). Enjoy!
Wednesday, August 17, 2011
Cake - The Distance
I was very close to including Cake in my Jump The Shark Week celebration/debacle. I just couldn't do it though. Even if I lost interest in them years ago, this track off their second album is still a fun song. Enjoy!
Tuesday, August 16, 2011
Cornershop - Brimful of Asha
There's nothing like a breezy Britpop song on a nice summer day...which brings me to today's selection by Cornershop. Enjoy!
Monday, August 15, 2011
Friday, August 12, 2011
Electronic - Feel Every Beat
IT'S FRIDAY FUNDAY!!!! And nothing screams Friday Funday more than New Order's Bernard Sumner rapping. It's ELECTRONIC!!! Enjoy!
Thursday, August 11, 2011
Fountains of Wayne - Radiation Vibe
I have to admit, I wasn't on board with Fountains of Wayne early on. In fact, I didn't really get into them until a few years ago which is somewhat criminal as they are one fine power pop band. So watch this video from their debut record and then check out their new album Sky Full of Holes. Enjoy!

Imperial Drag - Boy Or A Girl
Well, this is kind of embarrassing...I was thinking Imperial Teen, but accidentally typed Imperial Drag into the search box on YouTube. Totally forgot about this tune. Imperial Teen post will have to wait for another day. Here's some glammy goodness instead. Enjoy!

Atari Teenage Riot - Revolution Action
It's good to be back to normal here at Your Forgotten Favorite. So that of course means I must find the most completely messed up video of the 90s to kick things off. Enter Atari Teenage Riot. Enjoy!

Chumbawamba - Tubthumping
Jump The Shark Week thankfully comes to an end...thanks for indulging me...back to normal on Monday.
I want to first state that I have a TON of respect for Chumbawamba (what they did with the money they made from selling this song to car companies and movie studios was brilliant). To be honest I can't figure out if this is the greatest or worst song of the 90s. I suspect a little of both. Enjoy?

Smash Mouth - All Star
I assure you...Jump The Shark Week ends on Friday despite how much crap I keep finding.
Nothing got me to change the channel quicker in the late 90s/early 00s than this Smash Mouth uber hit. It's not horrible in the Limp Bizkit or Crazy Town way...I suppose it's just lame like Lifehouse or Cake (both of whom were very close to being JTSW inductees...I also feel that it's appropriate for me to mock those two bands now, before I actually DO jump the shark and get desperate enough to post videos by them). Anyway, here it is. Enjoy?

Crazy Town - Butterfly
Jump The Shark Week = Oh Dear God What Have I Done
Just when you thought Jump The Shark Week couldn't get any worse, I present to you... Crazy Town. I accept the fact that you will all hate me after this one. Sorry. Enjoy?

Sugar Ray - Fly
Live every day like it's Jump The Shark Week!
Believe it or not, I was having trouble finding an utterly craptacular 90s video for today (although I did stumble upon some good ones for when this Jump The Shark Week nightmare ends). Then, while tooling around youtube, I saw those frosted spikes and proclaimed SUGAR RAY!!!! Enjoy?

Orgy - Blue Monday
Can it still be called Jump The Shark Week when it's in week two?
Believe it or not, today's induction was a request. I believe the person's exact words were something like "you should play the video of that godawful band that covered New Order." So, here's Orgy, that godawful band who covered New Order. Enjoy?

Creed - With Arms Wide Open
Oh dear gawd, will Jump The Shark Week ever end? Nope...we got at least another week of the worst 90s alt videos (then I promise the goodness will return)...
I am NOT proud of myself for unleashing today's song onto an unsuspecting world. Creed just might be the worst freaking band of the 90s. I suspect they are one of the main reasons why "modern rock" radio started to suck around 2000 (which of course led to the demise of modern rock radio in most cities). So, anyway...enjoy?

Korn - Freak on a Leash
To quote Jump The Shark Week's first inductee (Limp Bizkit) we keep "rollin', rollin', rollin'" with the regrettable "hits." (I am SO not proud of that sentence)...
Anyway, y'all didn't think we could do this Jump The Shark Week without Korn now, did ya? Enjoy?

Incubus - Pardon Me
YEAH BABY, JUMP THE SHARK WEEK AT YOUR FORGOTTEN FAVORITE ROLLS ON!!!!
Is it possible that there are people out there who ACTUALLY like my Jump The Shark Week inductees? Well if they do, I'm sure they'll love today's band: Incubus. Enjoy?

311 - Down
Jump The Shark Week lumbers on...celebrating some gladly forgotten favorites...
OK, I have to admit, I liked the first 311 album Music and their self-titled third album. They kind of topped off for me after that. I hear that they are still recording and touring. Good for them. I can't say I know anyone who would be interested in such things, but that's just me. Anyway, here's one of their better songs. Enjoy?

Limp Bizkit - Break Stuff
WELCOME TO JUMP THE SHARK WEEK!!! Yup, all week we will be "celebrating" some very questionable Forgotten Favorites.
Let's get this started with perpetual laughing stocks Limp Bizkit and one of their only mildly passable songs. Enjoy?

RIP Amy Winehouse
I was driving home from my OBX vacation today with my wife. We were listening to a very exclusive 700 song playlist of "hits" on random. After we righted a wrong turn in Virginia Beach (one of my favorite places) my wife looked at me and said, "Amy Winehouse was found dead in her flat." I let out a hushed "f&ck." About an hour later, Rehab played. I hit skip immediately. I couldn't hear it (and you'll notice I didn't post that video below).
I didn't know Amy, but I fell in love with that voice the first time I heard it. Years ago, a friend online suggested I check out her Frank cd. It was only available via import at the time but I managed to get a copy of it (from a now out of business record store) and was blown away by what I heard. That voice. Shortly after, her Back to Black cd came out and I was head over heels. It was around this time when I happened to be backstage hanging out with my wife and Suzanne Vega (nothing like the time I ended up backstage with Iron Maiden). We were chatting about music and Suzanne enthusiastically asked me if I had heard Amy Winehouse. I gave her a big smile and said something like "what an amazing voice" and Suzanne agreed. That voice. Now silenced. Be at peace Amy.

L.A. Style - James Brown is Dead
It's FRIDAY FUNDAY BABY!!!! So break out the glowsticks and smart drinks and rave on with L.A. Style. Enjoy!
Thursday, July 14, 2011
The B-52s - Good Stuff
Clearly I have the beach on my mind as I can't think of posting anything but The B-52s. I actually saw them play in Virginia Beach a couple years ago (you haven't lived until you've heard them play Rock Lobster ON the beach). Anyway, here's the title track off their Good Stuff album. Enjoy!
Wednesday, July 13, 2011
The Soup Dragons - Divine Thing
I actually got to see The Soup Dragons twice on their Hotwired tour with James. Talk about a loaded tour as both bands were at the top of their game. Anyway, here's one of their finer tracks. Enjoy!
Tuesday, July 12, 2011
The Smithereens - Blood and Roses
There are some bands I always seem to take for granted. The Smithereens are definitely one of them. I always seem to like what I hear, but I never seem to go out of my way to hear them (even when they pretty much play a mile from my house every January). This year, I'll go. For now, here's one of their bigger hits. Enjoy!
Monday, July 11, 2011
All - Million Bucks
I was totally struggling with what video to post today. But then I took a good hard look in the mirror. Staring back at me was a handsome devil wearing an All shirt. Bingo! Sadly, the evidence grows as to how much actual thought gets put into this blog on a daily basis. Anyway, as always, Enjoy!
Thursday, July 7, 2011
Slowdive - Allison
Haven't done a good shoegaze video in a while...seems like a perfect time for a Slowdive classic. Enjoy!
Wednesday, July 6, 2011
Aphex Twin - Come to Daddy
I was thinking about doing an Aphex Twin post for Friday Funday, but let's be honest, this video is far scarier (literally and jokingly) than any of that techno goofiness I like to post on Fridays. Enjoy!
Tuesday, July 5, 2011
Inspiral Carpets - This Is How It Feels
OK, the Your Forgotten Favorite train keeps rolling (I have no idea how, mind you, I swear I saw that shark months ago...). Anyway, I always liked Inspiral Carpets brand of Brit psychedelic pop. Here's a track off of their Life record. Enjoy!
Monday, July 4, 2011
Mouthpiece - Cinder
How about some Jersey straight edge to kick off the week? Well, I think Mouthpiece should fill that need. Enjoy!
Friday, July 1, 2011
Praga Khan - Injected With a Poison
Awwwwww yeah! It's Friday Funday...and that means it's time to hit the dance floor and RAVE TIL DAWN with Praga Khan! Enjoy!
Thursday, June 30, 2011
Wednesday, June 29, 2011
New Order - Regret
New Order is certainly among my top 10 favorite bands ever. Here's one of my top 3 favorite New Order songs (FYI, it was my No. 1 song of 1993 on my old college radio show). Enjoy!
Tuesday, June 28, 2011
Gravity Kills - Guilty
I almost forgot about Gravity Kills. They were a pretty decent industrial rock act from St. Louis (I actually just learned that they have reunited over the last couple of years). Always thought that they were kind of reminiscent of early Nine Inch Nails, which is not exactly a bad thing. Here's their first hit. Enjoy!
Monday, June 27, 2011
Strife - Through and Through
Another Monday here at Your Forgotten Favorite. As always, we kick off the week with some heavy music, and it doesn't get much heavier than Strife. Here's a hardcore classic by one of California's finest, and one of the three bands on my favorite live hardcore album (The California Takeover). Enjoy!
Friday, June 24, 2011
Crystal Method - Comin' Back
It's Friday Funday...The YFF DJ is spinning some Crystal Method...the beats are pumpin' so get on the dance floor and shake it. Enjoy!
Thursday, June 23, 2011
The Beautiful South - A Little Time
I am ALWAYS in the mood to listen to The Beautiful South. Over the last few years I've simply devoured their entire catalog. Here's one of my favorite tracks. Enjoy!
Wednesday, June 22, 2011
Faith No More - Midlife Crisis
After the awesomeness of Faith No More's Epic album, it took me a bit to get into their follow-up Angel Dust. I missed the more in your face aspects of Epic, but grew to like Angel Dust's subtleties. As usual, here's the album's lead single. Enjoy!
Tuesday, June 21, 2011
Primus - Tommy the Cat
OK, I'll be the first to admit that I was never a big Primus fan, but I have to say Sailing the Seas of Cheese had a couple gems that I always dug. Here's one of them. Enjoy!
Monday, June 20, 2011
Warzone - The Sound of Revolution
How about a little NYC Hardcore to kick off another week here at Your Forgotten Favorite? Done. Here's a track off of Warzone's The Sound of Revolution record. Enjoy!
Friday, June 17, 2011
Thursday, June 16, 2011
R.E.M. - Daysleeper
R.E.M. has long been one of my favorite bands. I was thrilled to FINALLY see them in concert when they toured for Accelerate and it was everything I could have hoped for and more. Anyway, there's a lot of typical 90s songs by them I could have chosen, but I decided to go with this understated classic off of their Up album. Enjoy!
Wednesday, June 15, 2011
Transvision Vamp - If Looks Could Kill
I still have no idea why Transvision Vamp didn't get insanely HUGE. Drop dead gorgeous singer (who could really wail), catchy hooks and fun lyrics. Oh well. We'll always have Velveteen and Little Magnets Versus the Bubble of Babble (my personal favorite). Enjoy!
Tuesday, June 14, 2011
Lamb - Softly
I was really hoping to find a video off of Lamb's first album which is a fine mix of trip hop, drum and bass, and jazz. But, I couldn't. Never fear, this track off of their second album is pretty rad too. Enjoy!
Monday, June 13, 2011
Green Day - Basket Case
Green Day has been one of my favorite bands since pretty much the first time I heard them. I still often listen to Dookie...and well...their entire catalog. So go back with me and watch the video that started it all for most of us. Enjoy!
Friday, June 10, 2011
Thursday, June 9, 2011
Wool - Medication
I had almost forgot how rad Wool was (let alone who was in the band...go click on that happy blue link thingy to find out). Anyway I stumbled upon this video from their debut record this morning. Enjoy!
Wednesday, June 8, 2011
Depeche Mode - Useless
Depeche Mode has long been a favorite of mine (even if I still have never seen them live). I kind of lost interest in them though after Songs of Faith and Devotion came out and it wasn't until Playing the Angel came out in 2005 that I caught up with an almost decade long gap. I'm glad I did. Here's a track off of their Ultra cd. Enjoy!
Tuesday, June 7, 2011
American Music Club - Rise
I've been a big fan of San Francisco's American Music Club for some time now (this also includes the many fine solo albums by singer Mark Eitzel). Here's a classic track off of their Everclear cd. Enjoy!
Monday, June 6, 2011
Peter Murphy - Sweetest Drop
Apparently, Peter Murphy has once again climbed out of his coffin to offer up the world some more music (new record out tomorrow). Seems like a perfect time to post a video off of one of my favorite records by him (Holy Smoke). Enjoy!
Friday, June 3, 2011
Fatboy Slim - The Rockafeller Skank
It's once again Friday Funday!!! So get those bodies on the dance floor and shake it to Fatboy Slim. Enjoy!
Thursday, June 2, 2011
The Cavedogs - Leave Me Alone
I think this video by The Cavedogs may have the raddest special effects of the nearly 300 videos I've posted so far. Enjoy!
Wednesday, June 1, 2011
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Suck My Kiss
The heatwave continues, so I think I'll keep the "hot" thing going with the legendary Red Hot Chili Peppers. I saw them twice on their tour for Blood Sugar Sex Magik (and again on the Californication tour). Still one of the best live bands going. Here's a Blood Sugar classic (lyrics NSFW). Enjoy!
Tuesday, May 31, 2011
Squirrel Nut Zippers - Put A Lid On It
Seeing that the temperature is hitting the 90s and my AC is busted yet again, I wanted to post the video for Hell by the Squirrel Nut Zippers. Alas, the label/YouTube have blocked that classic tune. So here's another lesser known video from the same record (go figure). Enjoy!
Friday, May 27, 2011
The Shamen - Move Any Mountain
Friday Funday is BACK BABY!!!! And that means one thing: IT'S TIME TO HIT THE CLUB AND DANCE, DANCE, DANCE!!!!!! So shake it to The Shamen and have a great long weekend. Enjoy!
Thursday, May 26, 2011
Squirtgun - Mary Ann
Raise your hands if you first heard Squirtgun on the soundtrack to Mallrats. OK, put your friggin' hands down, I can't see you. Sheesh. Anyway, I couldn't find the video for Social, so we'll have to settle for something off of their Another Sunny Afternoon disc. Enjoy!
Wednesday, May 25, 2011
Lagwagon - Razor Burn
How have I posted over 270 videos and not one by Lagwagon? My bad. Here's a classic off of their Hoss album. All is forgiven (I'm sure). Enjoy!
Tuesday, May 24, 2011
Goldfinger - Superman
OK, I'll admit it, the first time I heard today's song by Goldfinger was while I was playing one of the old Tony Hawk Pro Skater games (still my favorite video game series ever). Enjoy!
Monday, May 23, 2011
Ash - Goldfinger
I didn't really give Ash a shot when they broke. It was nothing personal. I guess they were just off my radar at the time. It wasn't only until about two years ago that I "discovered" them. I'm glad I did. Here's one of their more Britpoppy songs (believe it or not some of their songs have metal and punk tinges to them). Enjoy!
Thursday, May 19, 2011
Beat Happening - Tiger Trap
OK, so I was actually looking for a Tiger Trap video to post today. I couldn't find one, but I did stumble across this Beat Happening classic. Enjoy!
Wednesday, May 18, 2011
Tuesday, May 17, 2011
Violent Femmes - Used to Be
I must admit that the first time I saw the Violent Femmes live it was purely because they were opening for the Throwing Muses. They started to grow on me that night as they were debuting songs from their Why Do Birds Sing CD. Of course, as the years went on my fandom grew as I saw them a few more times and devoured their extensive catalog of hit-filled records (particularly that first record). Here's a little ditty off that WDBS disc. Enjoy!
Monday, May 16, 2011
Talk Show - Hello Hello
I initially hated the Stone Temple Pilots. But by their second album I reconsidered my stance and became a fan. So when word came out in 1997 that the band was going to make a record as Talk Show without their iconic singer (who was busy working on a solo album and a legendary substance abuse problem), I was skeptical. But then I heard the first single and bought in. Here it is. Enjoy!
Thursday, May 12, 2011
Gigolo Aunts - Where I Find My Heaven
It shocks me sometimes how some bands blow up while others stay in relative obscurity. I always thought the Gigolo Aunts would fall into the blow-up side. It happens though. Anyway, here's a track off of their Flippin' Out CD. Enjoy!
Wednesday, May 11, 2011
Deftones - 7 Words
In 1995, I was lucky enough to con my college radio station into sending me to the CMJ Music Conference. Basically, it was a three-day orgy of live music, cheap beer and freebies. Among the freebies was a comp that featured this Deftones tune which still kicks my butt when I hear it all of these years later. FYI (NSFW...lyrics...you have been warned) Enjoy!
Tuesday, May 10, 2011
Small - Vega and Boston
During my college years Small (aka Small 23) were easily one of my favorite indie rock bands. True Zero Hook, among their other albums, is just one of those classic records that still sounds vital today. Here's the lead track off their Silver Gleaming Death Machine disc. Enjoy!
Wednesday, April 27, 2011
Mad Season - River of Deceit
I recently picked up a used copy of the Mad Season cd. I have no idea why it took me so long. I always dug Layne Staley's voice and today's song. Better late than never I suppose. Enjoy!
Tuesday, April 26, 2011
Monday, April 25, 2011
Get Up Kids - Action & Action
Something to Write Home About by The Get Up Kids is easily in my top 10 favorite albums of the 90s and possibly all time. Never tire of this gem. Enjoy!
Thursday, April 21, 2011
Drop Nineteens - Winona
I hadn't thought about the Drop Nineteens in some time, but, just a few days ago I was going through a box of old tapes and stumbled upon their Delaware tape. After watching this video, I may need to upgrade to CD. Enjoy!
Tuesday, April 19, 2011
Hammerbox - Hed
One of the first requests I ever got here was for Hammerbox. I of course blew it off because to be honest I had never heard them before, (I had heard of them though...big difference). It was only after I posted a video for Goodness a while back that I made the connection (Hammerbox singer went on to form Goodness). So here's my introduction to Hammerbox. Enjoy!
Monday, April 18, 2011
Dandelion - Under My Skin
I always thought I Think I'm Gonna Be Sick by Dandelion was a pretty rad album. Sure, it sounds like Mudhoney, but it's still pretty cool, fuzzed out rock. Enjoy!
Friday, April 15, 2011
Meat Beat Manifesto - Edge of No Control
It's no secret that I was a big fan of electronic music in the early 90s. One of my favorite bands were Meat Beat Manifesto Here's one of their best songs and a downright cool video off of their Satyricon album. Enjoy!
Thursday, April 14, 2011
Cell - Fall
Initially, I was more intrigued by Cell than I was "into" them. I suppose it had a lot to do with Thurston Moore singing their praises early on. While it took me a bit to get their discs, it was easy to see what Moore saw in their fuzzed-out alt rock stylings. Here's a track off their debut Slo*Blo. Enjoy!
Wednesday, April 13, 2011
Catherine - Four Leaf Clover
I was a HUGE fan of Catherine's Hot Saki and Bedtime Stories album. If you've never heard them, go to YouTube and check out the audio clip of their awesome song Whisper. For now though, here's the only video I can find from the Hot Saki album (and yes, that is D'Arcy in the video). Enjoy!
Tuesday, April 12, 2011
Season to Risk - Jack Frost
I didn't listen to a lot of Season to Risk back in the day, but after seeing this video, I see the error in my ways. Sure, it kind of sounds like Helmet, but is that really a bad thing? Enjoy
Monday, April 11, 2011
Picasso Trigger - Rub a Dub
I was looking through a box of my 7"s on Friday night when I ran across an old favorite by Picasso Trigger. Here's a quick blast off of their Fire in the Hole! album. Enjoy!
Thursday, April 7, 2011
Wednesday, April 6, 2011
Magnapop - Slowly, Slowly
OK, here's another band I haven't thought of in a long time -- Magnapop. I think I may need a reintroduction. Here's a track off of their Hot Boxing cd. Enjoy!
Tuesday, April 5, 2011
Queen Sarah Saturday - Seems
Sometimes band names will just pop into my head when trying to figure out who to write about here. Queen Sarah Saturday popped into my head today for whatever reason. I'm glad they did. Haven't really listened to them since maybe 96 and after watching this video I need to rip that old cd onto my iPod. Great power pop. Enjoy!
Monday, April 4, 2011
Saves the Day - Shoulder to the Wheel
The weather today is great. Drove around town with the windows down blaring Through Being Cool by Saves the Day. Here's a track off that hardcore classic. Enjoy!
Thursday, March 31, 2011
Tindersticks - Another Night In
I've been waiting for the right moment to post this video. I used to really dig the Tindersticks. Just great late night or rainy day music. Today's song is easily my favorite track by them. I think I may spend part of this gloomy day reacquainting myself with their catalog. Enjoy!
Tuesday, March 29, 2011
For Love Not Lisa - Slip Slide Melting
I have no idea why For Love Not Lisa popped into my head this morning. But they did. So, here's the video they did for their song on The Crow Soundtrack. Enjoy!
Monday, March 28, 2011
Pennywise - Alien
I guess Pennywise came into my musical world in 1995 with the release of their classic album About Time. Fast forward a few years and I finally got to see a blistering set by them at my first Warped Tour (it was either 97 or 98). Since then, they have continued to put out quality melodic hardcore. Got to see them again at last year's Warped Tour with their new singer Zoli Téglás (of Ignite) and the fire was still there. Here's a track off of their Straight Ahead album. Enjoy!
Thursday, March 24, 2011
7 Year Bitch - Hip Like Junk
I first heard 7 Year Bitch on the Kill Rock Stars comp and was hooked. Come to think of it there were quite a few bands that I got turned onto from that comp (Heavens to Betsy, Bratmobile, Unwound, Bikini Kill, Fitz of Depression, Nation of Ulysses...). Anyway, here's a track off the Viva Zapata cd. Enjoy!
Wednesday, March 23, 2011
Daisy Chainsaw - Love Your Money
I don't have much to say about Daisy Chainsaw as I didn't really know them all that well beyond their butt-shakingly awesome Love Sick Pleasure ep. Here's the ep's classic track (although, I should mention, All The Kids Agree is a pretty kicking tune as well). Enjoy!
Tuesday, March 22, 2011
NOFX - Bob
I never get sick of listening to NOFX. Easily one of my favorite bands since I heard their legendary Punk in Drublic album. Here's a classic track off of their White Trash Two Heebs & A Bean cd. Enjoy!
Thursday, March 17, 2011
Sinead O'Connor & Shane MacGowan - Haunted
Happy St. Patrick's Day! Have fun, stay safe and dig the cool Irish music! Enjoy!
Wednesday, March 16, 2011
Skinny Puppy - Spasmolytic
I started getting back into Skinny Puppy a few years ago and Too Dark Park was one of the first cds I re-acquired/upgraded from tape. I've since picked up a few more pre- and post-TDP. Not exactly, music to chill to, but in the right frame of mind some classic industrial always does the trick for me. Here's a video from 1990's TDP. Enjoy!
Tuesday, March 15, 2011
The The - Slow Emotion Replay
I didn't really get into The The until I heard their Lust album. Our local non-commercial radio station used to play Dogs of Lust all the time and I got hooked. Still one of my favorite records of the 90s (I've since picked up their early and later albums and really dig them as well). Anyway, here's the only video off Lust that's embeddable (sound is a little rough, but not as bad as some other stuff I've posted...I would suggest checking out the videos for Dogs of Lust and Love is Stronger than Death as well). Enjoy!
Monday, March 14, 2011
Agnostic Front - Gotta Go
Yeah, it's Monday. That means it's hardcore day here at Your Forgotten Favorite and it doesn't really get more hardcore than Agnostic Front. Here's a track off of their return album Something's Gotta Give. Enjoi!
Friday, March 4, 2011
Oasis - Don't Look Back in Anger
I foolishly blew off Oasis when their first album came out and not because of everyone's No. 1 reason: "they are a dumb Beatles rip-off." To be honest, that never bothered me (and still doesn't). I suppose, I just wasn't into it. BUT, when (What's the Story) Morning Glory? came out, my opinion completely changed and I've been a fan ever since. While Champagne Supernova and Wonderwall are the big hits, I was always partial to She's Electric and today's song (my favorite). Enjoy!
Thursday, March 3, 2011
Tuesday, March 1, 2011
The Mission - Butterfly on a Wheel
It's a bright and sunny start to March, so of course I've had gloomy gothy Mission songs stuck in my head all day. Here's one of their classics. Enjoy!
Monday, February 28, 2011
The Muffs - Oh Nina
When I first heard The Muffs in college I was a bit baffled. Wasn't quite sure what I was hearing and I kind of blew it off. It didn't last long though as Lucky Guy in particular, and The Muffs in general, became a mainstay in my personal soundtrack (and still is 18 years later). While my favorite Muffs videos won't embed (Lucky Guy and Sad Tomorrow), I was able to find this gem off their second record. Enjoy!

Radiohead - Fake Plastic Trees
So, Radiohead has another album coming out (tomorrow actually). While I pretty much stopped listening to them after OK Computer, I still respect what they do and remain a big fan of their first three albums (for the record I have listened to all of the albums, they just didn't do much for me). So, bygones be bygones, here's one of my favorite Radiohead tracks. Enjoy!

The Cranes - Everywhere
I saw The Cranes open for The Cure in the summer of 91. It took a few years, but I eventually became a fan. I even have Forever, the album that today's song is from on vinyl (along with a pretty cool bonus ep that came with it). Enjoy!

Sebadoh - Rebound
Bakesale by Sebadoh is not only one of my favorite indie rock albums of the 90s, but possibly of all time. Here's a Loobie classic. Enjoy!

Walt Mink - Shine
To be honest, I didn't spend a lot of time listening to Walt Mink back in the 90s. It's not that I didn't like them though as I saw them play a couple times. I'm actually surprised I didn't listen to them more seeing as they had that early Smashing Pumpkins' psychedelic sound. Here's one of their more known songs (video was directed by Sofia Coppola). Enjoy!

Bloodhound Gang - The Bad Touch
It's Friday Fun Day! So here's a Bloodhound Gang video and tune with absolutely no redeeming qualities (although it is a pretty funny way to start out the weekend). Enjoy!

Rollins Band - Low Self Opinion
To be honest, when this Rollins Band song came out, I knew very little about Henry Rollins. All I knew was that this song completely leveled me. Of course I was soon clued into Black Flag (a band that still amazes me all of these years later) and his many books. So here's the song that started an almost 20-year addiction. Enjoy!

Pavement - Stereo
How has it taken me over a year to feature one of my favorite indie rock bands? Pavement IS indie rock and one of the main reasons why I dis on so many "indie" bands today who have no stones or style. It was awesome seeing them again last summer at the Virgin Free Fest (first time I'd seen them in about 15 years). Anyway, here's the song that asks one of the most important questions evahhhh. Enjoy!

Eels - Novocaine for the Soul
I almost wrote off the Eels as some sort of a Flaming Lips rip-off. I'm glad I reconsidered. Their last few albums were pretty awesome. As always, here's the song that everyone knows. Enjoy!

Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy - Television the Drug of the Nation
I'm not sure if there is a genre called "industrial rap," (to be honest, I don't feel like looking it up, nor do I care to find out), but if there is, Michael Franti's Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy would be one of the pioneers. Here's a classic track off the Hypocrisy Is the Greatest Luxury disc. Enjoy!

Billy Bragg (with Natalie Merchant) - Way Over Yonder in the Minor Key
I have been a HUGE Billy Bragg fan since high school. I finally got to see him perform in 1996 (oddly enough, opening for The Barenaked Ladies...I left early). Well, today I got two front row center tickets to see him in my town in June. SCORE!!!! Anyway, I couldn't find the Sexuality video (I know it exists, just can't find it), so here's one of my favorite tracks off Billy's two albums with Wilco. Enjoy!

OMD - Sailing on the Seven Seas
It's Friday Funday at Your Forgotten Favorite, and it doesn't get...uhhh...funner than OMD. Enjoy a classic track off their Sugar Tax album. Enjoy!

SNFU - Reality is a Ride on the Bus
Haven't listened to Canada's SNFU in a while. Must change that. These guys put out some great punk rock in the 90s. Here's a classic off their Something Green & Leafy This Way Comes. Enjoy!

Sick Of It All - Scratch the Surface
I love New York Hard Core and it doesn't get much better than Sick Of It All. I still can't believe that this album came out on Atlantic Records. Enjoy!

G. Love and Special Sauce - Baby's Got Sauce
I first saw G. Love and Special Sauce on the opening night of the 1995 CMJ Music Conference in NYC at this tiny little bar and have been a fan ever since. Here's the song that hooked everyone back in the day. Enjoy!

Orange 9mm - High Speed Changer
Half of the fun of doing this little blog has been rediscovering some of those great bands of yesteryear. Orange 9mm is one of those bands. I actually got to see them play with Downset and The Deftones back in 96 before anyone started uttering the word nu-metal. Anyway, here's a track off their Driver Not Included cd. Enjoy!

Snapcase - Steps
Victory Records used to put out some pretty awesome hardcore records in the 90s. Snapcase, from Buffalo, NY were one my favorite bands on the label. Here's the title track off of their Steps EP. Enjoy!

Avail - Simple Song
I wish I could say that I was so cool that I was listening to Avail from the start. But it wouldn't be true. In fact, I really didn't get into them until 1996 shortly after 4AM Friday was released. It made a big impact. Since that first listen, I seem to find myself gravitating to hardcore bands that share Avail's melodic side. Here's the track that turned my head back in the day. Enjoy!

Concrete Blonde - Ghost of a Texas Ladies Man
I'll be the first to admit, I totally take some bands for granted. Concrete Blonde is one such band. I went almost a decade without even thinking about them. One day a couple years ago I heard their big hit Joey on the radio and proceeded to "upgrade" my Concrete Blonde collection from tape to CD (all via trades on the old Lala.com). I'm glad I did. Such an underrated band. Here's a rousing track off their Walking in London disc. Enjoy!

The Vandals - I Have a Date
Live Fast Diarrhea was my introduction to The Vandals. Such a fun album which I still love to crank up. Here's one of my favorite tracks (it's a Simpletones cover). Enjoy!

Goodness - Wicked Eye
I first heard Goodness on the Schoolhouse Rock! Rocks comp years ago. Shortly after, I purchased their self-titled album from a dollar bin at a local used cd shop. Goodness indeed. Here's a video off that album. Enjoy!

The Promise Ring - Why Did Ever We Meet
I love when I hear a band for the first time and have that "a-ha moment." Hearing The Promise Ring for the first time (live no less) was one such moment. I bought Nothing Feels Good that night and proceeded to play it for everyone I knew (for years). To this day, I still get chills when I hear it (which is often). Here's one of my favorite Promise Ring tracks. Enjoy!

Tripping Daisy - I Got A Girl
I saw Tripping Daisy when they were first starting to gain radio/video momentum in 1995. Even though I was mostly there to see Tracy Bonham (who herself was riding the Alternative Nation buzz with Mother Mother), the guys from Tripping Daisy really impressed me with their brand of alternative psychedelic pop rock. Here's their big hit song for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!
